Anson Tebbetts

Vermont native Anson Tebbetts is a 1983 graduate of Cabot High School. He graduated Boston's Emerson College in 1987 with a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism.

In June of 2009, Anson rediscovered his roots in broadcast journalism, when he was tapped to be the News Director at WCAX-TV, the Burlington, Vt., CBS television affiliate covering Vermont, New Hampshire, Northern New York, and Canada.

For 2½ years prior, Anson was the Deputy Secretary of Agriculture for the state of Vermont. A gubernatorial appointee, he worked in the public sector marketing and promoting Vermont agriculture, including business development and oversight of the consumer protection division.

Prior to becoming Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, Anson spent 13 years at WCAX.  He was named WCAX-TV's Rutland Bureau Chief in 1994, and then transferred to the Montpelier Bureau in 1995. In 2000, he became one of three Senior Reporters for WCAX-TV, and in 2001 was named the Bureau Chief for the Montpelier Bureau. He covered the Northeast Kingdom, the White River Valley, Central Vermont and the state capital.

Anson has won numerous awards from the Associated Press in both TV and Radio. Most notable are political and election coverage stories in the "breaking news" and "feature" categories, as well as stories covering the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Norway; the Carl Drega shootings in New Hampshire and Vermont; and several critter pieces from tracking turtles to hibernating bears. He was honored by the Vermont Farm Bureau in 2001 with the "Friend of the Farmer" Award.

Anson is the past President of the Vermont Associated Press Broadcast Association, is a former Cabot School Board member, a former trustee of the Fairbanks Museum in St. Johnsbury. He is a regular contributor to the Vermont political exchange, appearing frequently on WCAX's "You Can Quote Me," Vermont Public Television's "Vermont This Week," and VPR's "Switchboard." In 2000, he hosted a series on Vermont Public Television focusing on the future of farming in Vermont.

Anson Tebbetts was News Director at WDEV prior to joining the Channel 3 News in 1994. He remains co-host of the "For the Birds" Radio show on WDEV, WLVB and WCVT Radio. For many years, he was also the producer of the "Bird of the Week" feature that aired on WCAX.
