Here are some events happening around our area in the upcoming weeks:

The American Red Cross Blood Donor Center on North Prospect Street in Burlington is open on Mondays and Fridays from 7:30 - 1 PM and Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10 - 7 PM.

Free Memory Screening:  For adults 55 +, offered by UVM College of Medicine & Fletcher Allen Health Care on the 1st & 3rd Mondays of each month. Call Sally Ross Nolan for more information at 802-847-9488.

Performers needed who love to sing in a women's a cappella chorus.  No experience necessary, will teach!  Monday is always ladies night with the Champlain Echoes!  Rehearsals 6:30 at the Pines in South Burlington. Contact Karen: 879-0040.

South Burlington Community Library will host Knitting Classes every Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 PM for beginners and experienced knitters alike.

Ohavi Zedek Synagogue presents a Free multigenerational Bubbies, Babies, and Bagels program for families of all backgrounds. This Jewish playgroup is free and open to parents/grandparents and children between the ages of birth through four years old. It meets every Monday from 10 - 11 AM. The first half hour is filled with Jewish songs and stories followed by noshing and schmoozing.

The Vermont French Canadian Genealogy Society library is open for research Tuesdays from 7 - 9:30 PM and  every Saturday from 10 - 4 PM, except Holiday weekends (including Thanksgiving weekend). We offer Vermont & Canadian Catholic Parish records, Vermont Vital Records on Microfilm, Census records and other resources to assist with family history research. Volunteers are available to assist indivduals. The library is located at the Dupont building on Hegeman Ave. across from the VT State Police building in Fort Ethan Allen, Colchester.

Heineberg Senior Center is hosting a Walking Program at the Gosse Court Armory in Burlington Monday through Fridays from 8:30 - 10 AM. For more information, call the Heineberg Senior Center at (802) 863-3982.

Otter Creek Choral Society will hold practices for the Spring Concert on Monday nights from 7 - 9 PM at the Vergennes Congregational Church.

February 5:

The Champlain Valley Quilters Guild will meet on Tuesday from 7 - 9 PM at the Essex Alliance Church.

Adirondack Presbyterian Church in Lake Clear will serve a Fat Tuesday Pancake Supper on Tuesday from 5 - 7 PM.

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at Castleton State College on Tuesday from 10:30 - 4 PM.

February 6:

John Lake will present "Spotlight on Ben Franklin", a Living History performance of the life of Ben Franklin on Wednesday at 7:30 PM at the Milton Historical Museum.

Come to a Benefit Silent Auction for the River Valley Technical Center DECA Chapter on Wednesday from 9 - 7 PM in the Howard Dean Education Center Atrium in Springfield.

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the Shelburne Town Center on Wednesday from 12 - 5:30 PM.

February 7:

Waterbury Public Library will host the Bird Feeding and Great Backyard Bird Count at Thatcher Brook Primary School on Thursday from 6:30 - 7:30 PM.

Northeastern Clinton Central Middle School will host a Fundraiser for the Senior Band on Thursday from 4:30 - 7 PM.

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at UVM's Patrick Gym on Thursday from 12 - 6 PM.

Mothers of Preschoolers will meet on Thursday from 9:30 - 11:30 AM at Grace Brethren Church in Morrisville.

February 8, 9, 10:

Folsom School in South Hero will host a "Heart of the Community" Dinner Dance with Mango Jam on Friday at 6 PM.

St. Paul's School in Barton will host a Fish Fry on Friday from 5 - 7 PM.

The Henry Sheldon Musuem in Middlebury will host a reception for the opening of the photography exhibit: "Let Children Be Children: Lewis Wickes Hine's Crusade Against Child Labor" on Friday from 5 - 7 PM.

The Ed Larkin Dancers will host their 8th Annual Valentine Victorian Ball on Friday from 7:30 - 10:30 PM at Damon Hall in Hartland.

Stowe Theatre Guild will hold auditions for "Annie" at the Town Hall Theatre on Friday from 6 - 10 PM, Saturday from 9 - 1 PM and 2 - 6 PM and Sunday from 12 - 4 PM and 4:30 - 6:30 PM.

Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church Hall in Richmond will serve a French Canadian Supper on Saturday at 5 PM.

Vermont Historical Museum in Montpelier will host a program for children ages 6 to 12 on "A School Day in 1880" on Saturday from 10 AM - Noon.

Come to a Sweethearts Dance at Damon Hall in Hartland 3 Corners on Saturday from 7 - 11 PM.

The North Country Underground Railroad Historical Association will present "And Some Were Women" on Saturday at 4 PM at the North Country Cultural Center for the Arts in Plattsburgh.

Hinesburg Community School will host a Waffle Breakfast and Silent Auction on Saturday from 8:30 - 11 AM to benefit the Hinesburg Nursery School.

Crossett Brook Middle School in Waterbury will host a Musical Tribute to Matt Clancy on Saturday at 7:30 PM.

Burlington High School will host the 4th Annual City Championships and Honor Roll Recognition Night on Saturday starting at 5 PM, ending with the Burlington Police and Fire Department's Championship Basketball Game. All proceeds will benefit IMANI Youth and Family Center.

Frontier Animal Society of Vermont in Orleans will host their 1st Annual Valentine Adopt-A-Thon Weekend on Saturday and Sunday from 12 - 4 PM.

The Knights of Columbus of St. Anthony's in White River Junction will serve a Roast Beef Supper on Saturday from 5 - 7 PM.

Author Jon Furman will present his book on the Biology, History and Fate of Rattlesnakes on Tuesday at 7 PM at the West Rutland Town Hall.

The NCCS Acoustifellas and Kaliedosaic singing groups will perform a Free Concert on Tuesday at 7 PM at the Parish of St. Patrick's in Rouses Point in celebration of their 150th Anniversary.

The Russian musical ensemble, "Zolotoj Plyos," will perform a concert of traditional Russian folk music in the Wise Campus Center on the Norwich University campus on Tuesday at 9 PM.

February 14:

The Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center in Middlebury will host an Open House on Thursday from 4 - 7 PM.

The next meeting of the Town of Westport NY Historical Society will be on Thursday at 7 PM at the Westport Library Association. The program will be "75th Anniversary of the Westport Central School Building".
