Barre, Vermont - February 4, 2007
An art show in Central Vermont takes a look at the many roles weapons play in our society.
It's called "The Gun Show" at the Studio Place Arts gallery in Barre. Nearly 30 artists working in different mediums examine the strong symbolism of guns, from war to recreation. The exhibit's curator, Sue Higby, says the show does not make any overt political statements, but she hopes it will start conversations about responsible gun ownership. "In some cases, the artists are actually gun-toters themselves," Higby said. "This is a show that has content that should raise a lot of questions in people's mind when they go home at night. I'm sure there will be some very vivid images that go through people's minds."
There was another gun show in Barre this weekend -- people selling and buying real firearms at the Armory. We're told several of the exhibitors and customers traveled down Main Street to see the artists' take on weapons. The exhibit is on view Tuesdays through Saturdays at Studio Place Arts until February 24th.
