Bradford, Vermont - March 4, 2007
Vermont-made furniture is a big business and it will get a big boost this week in New York City.
Nearly thirty Vermont artisans and woodworking companies will pack a semi-truck Monday at Copeland Furniture's mill in Bradford. The furniture-makers are headed for one of the most prestigious design shows in the world, the 2007 Architectural Digest Home Design Show in the Big Apple. At least 30-thousand consumers will see the Vermonters' work. That exposure, one of the exhibitors says, is good for the industry state-wide.
"People at these shows give you a second look because you're from Vermont and it's unique and interesting. And people have an idea in their head of what Vermont means and the type of craftsmanship we do up here," said Mark Lackley, a Woodworker.
Lackley says the Expo gives Vermonters access to customers in key markets like Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York. The design show runs March 8th through the 11th. The Vermont showcase was organized by Cabot Creamery and the Vermont Wood Manufacturing Association.
