Trapani Leaving UVM

Burlington, Vermont - April 12, 2007

UVM Basketball takes a big hit. Star forward Joe Trapani is leaving the school after just one season.

The announcement being made Thursday afternoon by the university.

Attempts to contact Trapani have been unsuccessful.

Head Coach Mike Lonergan is out of town, but issued a statement through Director of Athletic communications Lisa Champagne:

"Joe Trapani met with me yesterday to inform me that he is leaving UVM. I was shocked and extremely disappointed to hear this, as were Joe's teammates and our assistant coaches. Joe gave me the reasons for his decision in confidence which were personal and non-basketball related. I will help him in any way I can and wish him the best of luck. He is a fine young man from a great family and out of respect for his privacy I will have no further comment." - Mike Lonergan.

However, Lonergan is expected to meet with the media tomorrow morning when he returns from a recruiting trip.

Attempts to contact Lonergan have been unsuccessful at this time.
