BANGOR, Maine (AP) - A judge has ordered Newport man Perley Goodrich Jr to undergo a psychological evaluation. The Bangor Daily News reports Goodrich is pleading insanity as he faces murder charges in the October shooting of his father. Goodrich's lawyer says he was in the middle of a "psychotic episode" when the shooting happened.
MADAWASKA, Maine (AP) - Union workers at Madawaska's Fraser Papers mill have agreed to an 8.5 percent pay cut in a package of concessions plant officials say was needed to keep it open. Union officials tell the Bangor Daily News workers didn't consider the deal fair but felt they had little choice.
BANGOR, Maine (AP) - Bangor city councilor Hal Wheeler says he didn't intend to implicate or embarrass anyone when he secretly recorded a meeting last week of officials about a local folk festival. The Bangor Daily News reports fellow councilors have censured Wheeler.
AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Business leaders are meeting in Augusta today for a jobs summit. The session follows up last year's White House jobs summit. The Sun-Journal reports the speakers include federal and state business development officials.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - In a vote that fell largely along party lines, a state House panel has recommended against repealing New Hampshire's five-week-old gay marriage law. The Judiciary Committee also voted, by the same 12-8 margin, to recommend killing gay marriage opponents' proposal for a constitutional amendment on the same-sex marriage issue.
DURHAM, N.H. (AP) - Republican Kelly Ayotte is holding on to her early lead over Democratic Congressman Paul Hodes in their race for the Senate. A WMUR Granite State survey of likely voters shows Ayotte running ahead of Hodes by 41 to 33 percent.
DURHAM, N.H. (AP) - Republican hopefuls for Congress in New Hampshire can find plenty to encourage them in a new WMUR Granite State poll. The survey suggests Frank Guinta and Sean Mahony both running strong against incumbent Democrat Carol Shea-Porter and has Charles Bass slightly ahead of Democrats Katrina Swett and Ann McLane Kuster in the 2nd District race.
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - A 13-year-old girl reported missing Sunday in Manchester has turned up safe and sound. Police say Lindsey Young was found yesterday with another juvenile and her mother. The girl, who told police she didn't want to go home because of the rules there, has been returned to her mother.

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Commuters in Montpelier could see more problems getting around downtown with yesterday's closure of the Taylor Street Bridge for refurbishing. The span won't reopen until October. The Barre Montpelier Times Argus reports the city has put up a new stop light in the area to help with the traffic.
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A former teacher's aide from Milton faces at least five years in prison after admitting he sexually assaulted a boy for several years during the 1990s. The Burlington Free Press reports court papers say Douglas Cavett has been assigned to work with the boy in a program for kids with emotional and behavioral problems at a Burlington middle school.
WALDEN, Vt. (AP) - Three men have been arrested after a home invasion in Walden Sunday night. Police tell WCAX two residents of the home were assaulted by masked men carrying handguns, with the attackers taking off with prescription pills. David Simpson Jr., Joshua Butler and Nicholas Plante all face burglary and other charges.
RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - A West Rutland student is back in school, just six weeks after fracturing his skull in a traffic accident. Doctors had told Josh Scaralia they didn't think he'd be able to return to Mount St. Joseph Academy but friends and family tell the Rutland Herald his rapid progress and recovery is a miracle.
