HORNELL, N.Y. (AP) - An effort is under way to have an upstate New York post office named after a 19-year-old Marine recently killed in action in Afghanistan. Congressman Eric Massa of Corning is pushing for federal legislation to have the Hornell Post Office named after Corporal Zachary Smith, who was killed by a roadside bomb last month. Smith's funeral was held last week in his Steuben (stoo-BEHN') County hometown.

GREECE, N.Y. (AP) - A suburban Rochester police department rocked by scandals has a new leader. Todd Baxter was sworn in Monday as the chief of the Town of Greece Police Department. The former Rochester police captain takes over a law enforcement agency that has been under an investigation after several officers were charged with crimes and two were convicted for drug and sex crimes.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The top Democrat in the state Assembly is holding a news conference with University at Albany officials later this morning to make an economic development announcement. The Albany Times Union reports that the Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and SUNY-Albany officials will announce that a builder of computer chip fabrication plants is relocating nearly 200 jobs from Texas to the Watervliet (wah-ter-vuh-LEET') Arsenal outside Albany.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli is holding a news conference in Albany later this morning. The state's top fiscal watchdog is presenting the findings of 5 years of school audits to the state Board of Regents. DiNapoli's office say he will also outline proposed legislation to increase accountability and transparency in school district finances while providing districts with mandate relief.
