Burlington, Vermont - June 26, 2007
While so many players are looking to get noticed this week as the NBA draft approaches, former UVM star Taylor Coppenrath will be a basketball player in hiding.. And he's challenging young kids to find him. A web based promotion in conjunction with his Summer Slam basketball camp, Coppenrath will be hiding out at undisclosed locations around the state. And if you're a youngster who can find him, you could win an expense paid slot at Coppenrath's Summer Slam Basketball Camp that begins July 30th.
"The way that you find me is you log on to "TAYLORCOPPENRATH.BLOGSPOT.COM and I'll give you clues where I am on certain dates. ". said the Vermont hoop star.
Coppenrath left UVM in style as the team upset Syracuse in the first round of the NCAAs his senior year. He's just two years removed from the Burlington campus but his name has grown to legendary proportions.
" It's nice to come home and still feel like people care about you. "
After an injury riddled season in Italy with two sprained ankles, Taylor's back in Vermont working out. Two years of pro ball behind him, his first year in Greece and another year in Italy, Coppenrath still chases the NBA dream. And with this being draft week, he's hoping for an invite to an NBA summer camp when everything shakes out.
"Coppenrath:If there's an opportunity and it's a good one I'll jump right on it and I think that after the draft there might be some opportunities more and might hear of some opportunities more. "
If the NBA doesn't work out, he could end up back in Europe and down the line, someday... he isn't ruling out playing in Vermont again. With the Frost Heaves.
"Coopenrath: You know, if I ever like lost a step or something I would like to continue to play in Vermont and at that level would be fine with me and get a good run but also I could do other things around the area and be around the whole year. "
Coppenrath's first day in hiding for his camp promotion is Thursday June 28th. Other dates are July 5, 9 and 12.
