Springfield, Vermont - January 11, 2008
Springfield has picked a spot for a museum dedicated solely to 'The Simpsons.' The old mill town is considered the home of the cartoon family.
The Springfield Chamber of Commerce will share a space on Main Street with the new museum. It will include items and memorabilia from the world premier of 'The Simpsons Movie," which was held right next door.
"It is a way to help promote travel, hopefully here to Springfield," said Patty Chaffee of the Chamber of Commerce. "We would like to see visitors come because Springfield is a great community, as well as our recognition as our home of 'The Simpsons.' So, if we could use 'The Simpsons' to get travelers here, hopefully they will venture out to see the other great things Springfield has to offer."
Springfield, Vt., beat out a dozen other Springfields around the country to be named 'The Simpsons' hometown and the site for the world premier of the movie.
