Burlington, Vermont - January 26, 2008
There was a big turnout for the first annual Career Jam. Well over one thousand people came to the Burlington waterfront's Lake and College building to look at exhibits by fifty businesses, ranging from software to media to health care.
It was put together by the weekly newspaper Seven Days, the Vermont Software Developers' Alliance and other businesses. Good paying jobs can be hard to find but officials say the Career Jam is one way to start. "The reality is, it's getting both of those folks together, the job seeker and the employer looking for those. This is kind of the ultimate power career fair," said Patrick Martell, president of the Software Developers Alliance.
Casey Lee, who's looking for a job, said, "You always hear about the different high-tech jobs and how people are always -- it's like an up and growing field. It's always growing and you never see it downsizing or anything like that."
Organizers of the Career Jam say they'll hold another one next year and add space. They say twenty employers had to be turned away because there was more demand for the show than anyone expected.
