Magic Hat Expands

South Burlington, Vermont - February 20, 2008

One of Vermont's biggest brand names is getting even bigger.

Magic Hat is doubling the capacity of its brewery in South Burlington. It will install a new packing line and brew house, which will likely lead to more jobs. The company says it's seen four years of double-digit growth and needs the addition to expand further in the South and into the Midwest.

But Magic Hat says its home state continues to be its strongest supporter.

"Vermont is a very robust craft beer market," said Magic Hat CEO Martin Kelly. "There are a number of strong competitors here locally, and a number of brands like ourselves that have done well on a broader scale. But the Vermont consumer has definitely demonstrated an appreciation for more flavorful beers and that's what ourselves and the other Vermont brewers are trying to satisfy."

The project should be complete by fall. Magic Hat is celebrating Mardi Gras this weekend in Burlington and launching a new beer called the Lucky Kat, which is an IPA.
