Texas Search in Brooke Bennett Murder

San Antonio, Texas - July 10, 2008

Federal agents are searching a landfill in Texas for evidence in the Brooke Bennett murder case.

The landfill is on the east side of San Antonio. Our CBS affiliate there tells us the FBI is combing the landfill looking for Raymond Gagnon's laptop computer. Gagnon is the former stepfather of Brooke Bennett, the 12-year-old girl from Braintree who was found dead a week after she went missing. Gagnon's friend in San Antonio says he threw the laptop in a dumpster at Gagnon's request. Gagnon is being held on obstruction of justice charges in connection with Brooke's disappearance. He has also been charged in Alabama with possession of child pornography.

Neither the U.S. Attorney's office in Vermont nor the FBI would provide us with further information.

Brooke was buried yesterday.
