NEWPORT, Vt. (AP) - Two men have pleaded not guilty to charges accusing them of breaking into a Glover home and stealing money from a family at knifepoint.
Twenty-3-year-old Jason Abel, who does not have a permanent address, and 21-year-old Shawn Turnbaugh, of Newport City, were being held on $10,000 bail.
They're charged with breaking into the home of Christopher and Amanda Tropeano early Tuesday, assaulting him, threatening her with a knife and stealing $900 intended for Christmas presents.
They were arrested when police went to a Derby motel to interview Tasha Robbins, whom the family had taken in when a fire destroyed her home. Police say Abel, Robbins' boyfriend, and Turnbaugh were at her room and their clothing and other evidence connected them to the crime.
