Burlington, Vermont - January 7, 2009
Mayor Bob Kiss formally kicked off his quest for a second term.
The Progressive incumbent told supporters at a rally this evening that he wanted to build on the accomplishments of the past three years. Among them -- he said he has built sound budgets and maintained city services without raising taxes. He pointed to the zoning rewrite and redevelopment of the Moran Plant as signs of sustainable economic development in the city.
"My record shows that I know how to deliver efficient and effective government," Kiss said. "I know how to build coalitions across party lines. I know how to include citizens in government. I know how to lead while encouraging an open and respectful exchange of ideas. I know how to focus on issues, not politics. I know how to get things done and I am ready to build on our accomplishments."
Kiss joins Republican Kurt Wright, Democrat Andy Montroll, and Independent Dan Smith on the Town Meeting Day ballot.
