Former Sheriff's Capt. May Be Sent to Prison

Brattleboro, Vermont - January 28, 2009

A former captain with the Windham County Sheriff's Department is facing jail time after she allegedly violated her probation.

As part of a plea deal, 43-year-old Heidi Nelson avoided spending five years in prison for taking a 17-year-old girl to Florida without the permission of the girl's parents. The deal required her not to have contact with the student for three years.

But earlier this month, Nelson was allegedly caught at a gas station with the girl in the middle of the night.

Her probation officer is recommending she go to prison.
