Expert Says Tribble was Mentally Ill

Hyde Park, Vermont - February 12, 2009

A psychiatrist says Dennis Tribble was suffering from mental illness when he gunned down his unarmed neighbor.

Tribble is on trial for the murder of Michael Borello 8 years ago. Tribble claims it was self-defense because he was certain Borello planned to kill him.

Thursday, a psychiatrist hired by Tribble's lawyers testified that Tribble may not be fully responsible because he is paranoid and delusional.

Prosecutors challenged those findings during cross-examination.

Lamoille Deputy Prosecutor Chris Noll: If he were lying, he wouldn't be suffering from a delusion, would he?

Defense Expert Witness Dr. Jonathan Wecker: No, of course not.

Noll: You would agree with me that some people after they kill somebody or in the planning stages of killing somebody, may try to anticipate how to cover their tracks and say thinks that they know aren't true?

Wecker: Um, sure.

Prosecutors will reportedly present testimony from two psychiatrists to support their claim that Tribble committed premeditated first-degree murder.
