In Littleton, New Hampshire, voters rejected a plan to hire another full-time firefighter.
The board of selectmen proposed the idea, after residents were outraged at the town's plan to leave the department unmanned overnight to save on overtime.
The board said hiring another full-time firefighter would be cheaper than paying overtime.
