Black Brook, New York - July 6, 2009
A deadly fire Sunday afternoon in Black Brook, N.Y., was caused by careless smoking.
That blaze claimed the life of 67-year-old Vernon Hoover. His wife was saved by two witnesses who broke down the front door to gain access to the building.
Police say the fire was started after a cigarette lit the living room couch on fire. The incident has been ruled an accident.
