Snowmobile races move to Plattsburgh

Plattsburgh, New York - September 1, 2010

The city of Plattsburgh will host a snowmobile race this winter that's expected to draw thousands of racers and fans.

The mayor and promoters looked over the site next to the Crete Center parking lot where tons of snow will be trucked in to build the track for the Sno-Cross races, which will be held the second weekend of January.

"It really does have a positive economic impact on the area so it's just another event that will bring that to the area and I think that's going to be very exciting and fun. And we will have snow, trust me. I guarantee will have snow," said Mayor Donald Kasprzak, R-Plattsburgh.

"It is definitely a first of its kind in the area but that means that we have people interested in winter events and not just coming in the summer and fall, which seeing that impact and understanding that they can utilize the area in the winter is going to have a huge impact on this region," said Kristy Kennedy of the North Country Chamber of Commerce.

The race is moving to Plattsburgh after several years in Malone. Promoters say they believe holding it in Plattsburgh will attract more spectators.
