Mooers Murder Suspect Arrested Near Mexico

Mooers, New York - May 15, 2007

New York State Police announced Tuesday evening that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of Darcy Manor, 35, of Mooers, New York. Manor was found shot to death last week, outside the summer camp where he worked part-time as a caretaker.

The suspect is Glenn Race, 26, of Nova Scotia. Tuesday, state police announced that Race was picked up by the U.S. Border Patrol in Brownsville, Texas. Race was apparently trying to cross the border into Mexico.

"Race was in possession of the .44 caliber rifle that was stolen from the scene of the homicide in Mooers, New York," said N.Y. State Police Maj. Richard Smith. "He was also in possession of property belonging to the victim, Darcy Manor."

Police said they believe the rifle may have been the murder weapon.

Police said Race had been a suspect since last weekend, but would not say what led them to him, or what motive there may have been for the murder.

"With the apprehension of Mr. Race, the investigation is not over," said N.Y. State Police Det. Capt. Robert LaFountain.

LaFountain indicated that the state police will confer with Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie before determine what charges should be brought against Race. It is expected he will be brought back to New York to face murder charges.

Meanwhile, police are still searching for Manor's truck-- missing since the murder.

"The 1992 teal colored Ford (F-250) pickup truck belonging to Mr. Manor has not been located and is still the subject of a nationwide all points bulletin," said Smith.

The truck bears New York license plate 35653JP. Police conceded it is unlikely the truck is still in the area.

The community of Mooers had been fearful since the murder last Thursday. The state police command post at the fire station was packed with residents at 6:00 p.m. when the press conference started and many of them cheered and applauded the announcement of Race's arrest.
