Authorities resumed their search today for Brianna Maitland. The 17-year-old Montgomery girl went missing three and a half years ago. Police began searching a remote area near Montgomery on Saturday after a local man found an old pair of jeans off an ATV trail in the woods near the area where Maitland was last seen.
It's a case that turned the small community of Montgomery upside-down. Brianna Maitland disappeared after leaving work at the Black Lantern Inn, never to be heard from again. Police have found evidence over the years, most notably Maitland's car, rammed into the side of an abandoned house, and now an old pair of jeans close to Brianna's size discovered a couple of hundred yards off of Hutchins Bridge Road deep in the woods.
A 30 person crew and 9 dogs searched the one-mile area surrounding the jeans on Monday, searching for more evidence. They found nothing. There's no information we have right now that tells us the jeans are in any way connected with the Maitland missing persons case. No one knows if Brianna was wearing jeans the night she disappeared.
Police are awaiting results from the crime lab to see if the pants contain any DNA matching Brianna Maitland. In the meantime, Maitland's parents and this community continue to wait praying Brianna will one day be found.
