Guilty Verdict in Glen Race Trial

Plattsburgh, New York - September 26, 2008

The judge handed down a guilty verdict Friday morning in the Glen Race murder trial.

Race, 27, of Canada, was convicted of shooting and killing Darcy Manor last year at a camp in Mooers, N.Y. Police said he was on the run after killing two men in Nova Scotia and needed a getaway car. Police later found Manor's missing truck in Texas. Race was arrested near the Mexican border.

Race's lawyers claimed the prosecution's case was based solely on circumstantial evidence.

Race requested that the trial be decided by a judge instead of a jury.

Friday, Judge Kevin Ryan convicted Race of first-degree murder and several counts of burglary and larceny. No sentencing date has been set, but Race now faces life in prison without parole.
