    The east prelims of the NCAA Track and Field Championships open Thursday in Lexington, Kentucky.  Montgomery, Vermont's Elle Purrier, now a junior at New Hampshire, is ranked first in the nation in the steeplechase.  Purrier, who finished third at the NCAAs last season, has the fastest time in the country by seven seconds and is feeling strong heading into the prelims.   "I had a pretty good run at the beginning of the season," Purrier said.  "I ope...

    The Middlebury women's lacrosse team held off a late charge by Amherst for an 8-7 win in a NESCAC Quarterfinal game played on Kohn Field.  Middlebury men's goalie, Charles Midgley made a career-high 24 saves, propelling the Panthers to an 11-10 upset of 11th-ranked Amherst in the NESCAC Quarterfinals Saturday in Massachusetts.

    UVM Junior guard, Trae Bell-Haynes, has filed as an early entry candidate for the 2017 NBA draft.  Bell-Haynes has until May 24th to withdraw his name and retain his NCAA eligibility  137 collegiate players filed as early entry candidates.  They were required to submit a letter to the NBA before Sunday.  The list was released today on NBA.com.  Bell Haynes is the reigning America East player of the year.
