Avery Powell is a reporter for WCAX.
Avery comes to the Green Mountain State after three years among the Blue Ridge Mountains as a reporter/anchor for WHSV in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He was born-and-raised in Virginia, growing up in the small town of Orange, Virginia, north of Charlottesville. In 2015, he graduated from George Mason University, outside of Washington, D.C., with a B.A. in Global Affairs (concentrating in Global Governance) and a minor in Electronic Journalism. At GMU, Avery was able to dive into the politics of Washington, D.C., interning with NBC's "Meet the Press" and the political unit of NBC News.
During his time at WHSV in Harrisonburg, Avery enjoyed a wide range of experiences. He started as a web producer, then became a reporter and eventually the New This Morning Reporter/Anchor, allowing him to occasionally fill-in produce and anchor for the noon and morning newscasts. After getting some anchoring experience, he is excited to get back into full-time reporting. Avery enjoys covering issues that are impactful to the local community, including in-depth reports.
While he has never experienced a Vermont winter, Avery is excited to call the Green Mountain State his new home and experience all the outdoor recreational activities in Vermont. In his free time, Avery enjoys running, music and movies (pretty much anything related to popular culture) and spending time with his dog Charlie.
