MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) With deer hunting season on the way, 24,500 Vermonters are celebrating new antlerless deer permits.
Fish and Game officials Friday announced the winners of the annual permit lottery for the fall muzzleloader hunt. Biologists say the hunt is intended to stabilize or reduce deer populations in some areas. The December hunt is expected to harvest about 3,670 animals.
Large landowners who apply under a certain category for the permits are not allowed to post their land against hunting.
Winners will be notified by email. But unlike previous years where the permits came in the mail, officials say winners this year will need to print their permits on a computer.
