Police investigate arson in Rutland

RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) The Vermont State Police is investigating an arson in Rutland.

Late Saturday night, fire fighters responded to a structure fire at 31 East Street in the city. Fire fighters say the front left porch area of building was on fire when they arrived. Crews were able to quickly knock down the fire and keep it from extending into the structure. The city had recently taken over the building. It was vacant at the time of the fire. Damage was estimated at approximately $25,000.

Investigators say the fire was intentionally set. Anyone with information is asked to call Vermont's arson tip line.
