Ausable Forks man sentenced for role in toddler's death

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) A Clinton County, New York, man has been sentenced to 1-3 years in prison for his role in the death of a toddler in Ausable Forks last summer.

A judge Tuesday sentenced Brandon Bushey after he had pleaded guilty in August to criminally negligent homicide in the death of 2-year-old Ellyah Elvidge. Bushey and Patricia Giddings-- the mother of the child-- used plywood to block a door and lock up her little boy. He died from injuries caused by getting his neck stuck in a notch in the plywood.

Prosecutors say Bushey cooperated with authorities in the investigation, but the judge on Tuesday reportedly told Bushey that cooperation did not "absolve him of Ellyah's death."

Giddings was sentenced earlier this month to serve 4-12 years in prison.
