BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Teachers' contracts are still in limbo in Burlington and South Burlington.
In Burlington, the teachers union says the school board failed to reach a contract agreement despite a mediator's recommendations. Salaries, health care, and other benefits have been sticking points. In June both sides submitted arguments to the mediator. The mediator's report came back this week, according to the union. The teachers' contracts expire at the end of August.
In South Burlington, the school board says it's not going to be taking the recommendations of a fact-finding report in its contract negotiations with the teachers union. The board says the fact-finder's suggestions don't sufficiently advance its goals, so it formally rejected the report. Salaries, benefits and working conditions are also issues here.
