College students host rail jam in Burlington

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) College students in Burlington bared the cold Friday night to kickstart the winter sports season.

It was the 14th Annual Champlain Ski and Ride Rail Jam. Skiers and snowboarders competed and showed off their moves at the Finney Quad. Community members listened to music and grabbed a snack as they watched participants flaunt their best tricks.

There has been no snow yet, so the Ski and Ride Club had to get creative.

“We order a U-Haul,” said Sage King, an event organizer. ”We go to all the local skating rinks and shovel all the snow, and then we plow it into the quad.”

Students have been prepping the snow for the event since Tuesday.

The proceeds go to the Love Your Brain Foundation, which helps people affected by traumatic brain injuries.
