MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) Franklin County Senator Dustin Degree has resigned to join Gov. Phil Scott's administration.

The 32-year-old Republican will start this week as special assistant to the governor and executive director of workforce expansion.

Scott's office also says former Democratic Rep. Sarah Buxton will become director of workforce policy and performance in the Department of Labor. Buxton has worked in the department since March after losing her re-election bid last year.

The governor plans to appoint a replacement for Degree in the Senate.
