How you can help 'Share the Harvest' with neighbors in need

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) It's time for Share the Harvest, an annual event put on by Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont or NOFA. It raises money for their farm share program.

All you have to do is dine at some of your favorite local restaurants or shop at local co-ops, and they'll donate some of the proceeds to NOFA Vermont.

The farm share program allows low-income Vermonters to purchase locally grown fruits and vegetables at a fraction of the cost. NOFA Vermont and the farm itself pick up half of the cost, while you pay the other half.

"A lot of people don't have good access to fresh fruits or vegetables on a regular basis and especially the ability to get really high-quality, local, organic vegetables. So this is a program that levels the playing field so that they can access too," said Erin Buckwalter of NOFA VT.
