BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Vermont health officials are giving vaccinations to hundreds of Burlington-area college students following a mumps outbreak.
Health workers conducted vaccination clinics at St. Michaels College this week for upwards of 450 students, according to the Vermont Department of Health. Similar clinics are planned next week for residents of three University of Vermont dormitories with reported cases.
Lab results released Thursday indicated eight of the 10 UVM cases came back negative. The remaining two were still pending. There was no immediate word on the number of cases at St. Mikes.
According to health officials, college students are among those adults at higher risk of exposure to the virus.
Parents of children who attend a day care center located on the UVM campus are being notified although officials say there have been no cases at that center.
