MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) Vermont lawmakers hope to help struggling dairy farmers.
They're drafting an emergency rescue package that includes access to low-cost loans of up to $15,000. Those would help cash-strapped farmers buy fertilizer and feed for the spring.
Milk prices are the big issue right now. And while economists believe milk prices will begin to rise next year, lawmakers say many farmers may not be able to survive this year without help.
