Making sense of the conflict with North Korea

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Tensions are high between the U.S. and North Korea. President Trump tweeted Friday that military plans to strike North Korea are "locked and loaded" in case the communist country tries to take any action against the United States. This comes following North Korea's announcement that it has formulated plans to launch missiles toward Guam.

The tension has many people asking questions. Our Keith McGilvery went looking for answers from UVM political scientist Matthew Carlson, who studies North Korea.

Carlson says it won't take much for things to escalate. He says if North Korea launches anything toward Guam, it would ratchet things up quickly. He stopped shy of war but said it could lead to a major conflict. Watch the video to hear more of what Carlson had to say.
