LONDONDERRY, N.H. (WCAX) New Hampshire is revealing its strategy to woo retail giant Amazon.
Amazon is looking for a place for its HQ2-- a second city to complement its Seattle headquarters. Bids from interested cities are due Thursday.
Gov. Chris Sununu, R-New Hampshire, on Wednesday released his pitch to bring Amazon to Londonderry. In addition to the lifestyle and proximity to Boston, Sununu is offering a tax benefit and infrastructure plan he says is worth almost $1.5 billion. Some of that is already part of the tax code, like no income tax and no sales-and-use tax on capital investments.
And New Hampshire will be competing against several communities in New York.
New York City says its cosmopolitan culture, diversity, large workforce and transportation infrastructure are key selling points.
Buffalo and Rochester are doing a joint bid focusing on economic resurgence, quality of life and educated labor force.
And officials in Westchester County, Long Island, Syracuse and Albany have all expressed interest in the project.
Amazon says the $5 billion headquarters project will add up to 50,000 jobs in whatever community it lands in.
