PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) A Saranac Lake woman convicted of the 2013 murder of her ex-boyfriend will get a new trial.

Angela Barr was charged with beating 65-year-old Ward Guy Wilbur with a baseball bat and stabbing him with a steak knife. Ball initially told police she killed Wilbur when she was having a "psycho moment," but later changed her story, claiming he first attacked her. She was sentenced to 20 years-to-life in prison.

But a New York Supreme Court panel reversed that conviction, saying that the judge in the case denied Ball a "justification charge" -- something that is required if there evidence that could lead the jury to conclude that the defendant acted in self-defense.

The ruling means Ball will get a new trial.
