Pharmacy's sudden closure leaves other business swamped

COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) The sudden closure of a Colchester pharmacy means another local business is swamped with calls.

We told you Thursday how Penro Compounding Pharmacy was shut down by the state earlier this month, leaving patients who usually get their medications there in the lurch.

There's only one other compounding pharmacy in the area-- Vermont Family Pharmacy in Burlington's New North End, which is a smaller compounding operation. Owner Lynne Vezina tells us they're trying to keep up with the calls coming in as best they can.

"We are doing extra hours. I have great employees-- thank you so much to them-- and everyone has been working extra. And we are getting organized to best help the patients that are calling," Vezina said.

She says they have increased their staffing to handle the volume of calls and she will go from compounding medications two days a week to five. But since she's not sure if Penro will reopen, she told us she's not quite sure how to handle staffing at her business over the next weeks and months.
