TOWNSHEND, Vt. (WCAX) Police are investigating a house fire in Townshend that left two people dead.

It happened Friday morning just before 10 a.m. at 163 Shirley Circle. There's not much left of the log cabin house, and state police say it was supposed to be unoccupied. But when investigators went inside, they found two bodies. Those have not been identified yet and have been taken to the medical examiner for an autopsy.

One neighbor told the Brattleboro Reformer he heard an explosion just before 10 a.m. Friday.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
