LYNDONVILLE, Vt. (WCAX) A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car in Lyndonville. The 46-year-old was found dead on the side of the road and now two people have been charged in connection with the fatal crash.
Police were called to Route 5 a little before 8 A.M. Saturday. Police say Mattie Lynn Hale, 46, was found off the side of the roadway, just north of Route 114. The Lyndon woman was already dead when police arrived on scene. The operator of the vehicle, who police say hit the female pedestrian, did not stop.
As the investigation continued, troopers located a silver Ford Fiesta with heavy front end damage at an apartment complex in Lyndonville. Police say 41-year-old Gary Hale was driving the vehicle when it hit the victim. According to police, there is no direct relation that they are aware of and the crash does not appear to be an intentional act of rage.
That section of Route 5 was closed for several hours Saturday while police conducted their investigation.
Police say 47-year-old Katrina Haslam was a passenger in the car. She is charged with accessory after the fact. Gary Hale is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with death resulting. Both people are due in court Monday.
