Pownal man charged with stealing 1,000 pounds of copper

POWNAL, Vt. (WCAX) Police say a North Pownal man is behind a series of burglaries in the area.

Police say that Ronald "R.J." George, 26, stole more than 1,000 pounds of copper piping and wiring from the Pownal Racetrack.

They say that he then sold the piping as scrap metal. Those aren't his only charges. Police say George has burglary charges dating back to 2016.

Police say there are other unsolved burglary cases in Pownal and ask anyone with information to contact them.
