Public Safety Fun Fair in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, Vt. A first hand look at how first responders handle emergency situations.

The Charlotte Fire Department held its first Public Safety Fun Fair Saturday. A medevac helicopter from Dartmouth Hitchcock was on display and took off from the town hall lawn. Fire crews from Charlotte and Shelburne demonstrated a vehicle extraction, as well as multiple live fire demonstrations. Kids and parents learned what to do if a fire breaks out in their home. 8th grader Kosi Thurber told Channel 3 he learned to sleep with your door closed.

“If you slept with your door closed it blocks a whole lot of fire," said Thurber.

Charlotte Fire Chief Dick St. George hopes this will be an annual event.

“Annually we do fire safety in the community at all the schools, but we're able to take this one step further," he said.
