NEW YORK (WCAX) Sen. Bernie Sanders says the president should think about stepping down over allegations of sexual misconduct.

"Well, let me take it a little step further. We have a president of the United States who acknowledged on a tape widely seen all over this country that he assaulted women. So, I hope that maybe the president of the United States might pay attention to what is going on and also think about resigning. But if your point is that it's not just Al Franken, you are absolutely right," said Sanders, I-Vermont.

Although he's always been critical of Trump, it's the first time Sanders has outright mentioned the president should resign.

Sanders made the comments Thursday on "CBS This Morning," while discussing why he thought Sen. Al Franken should step down.

In the interview, Sanders also discussed the Republican tax plan.
