Shelburne police chief suspended

SHELBURNE, Vt. (WCAX) A longtime Shelburne police chief has been suspended, and the town is remaining quiet about his current employment status.

Shelburne Police Chief James Warden was suspended for three days earlier this month according to internal department emails. The circumstances behind the suspension are being kept secret as the town cites it as a "personnel matter."

Shelburne Town Manager Joe Colangelo says Warden is still employed by the town, but refused to say if he is still working "on duty," and in what capacity, or if he is on administrative leave.

Colangelo says Warden has not submitted a resignation letter. He also would not confirm whether or not there is an internal investigation into the Chief. Warden has been the department's Chief since he was hired in 1987.
