Snowcat operator dies at Burke Mountain

EAST BURKE, Vt. (WCAX) A snowcat operator at Burke Mountain is dead after being ejected from the machine.

According to Vermont State Police, Denny Degreenia, 45, of Concord, Vermont, was driving the groomer Sunday evening when it rolled over unexpectedly. Degreenia was ejected from the machine and later pronounced dead by rescue personnel. A passenger in the vehicle, Clifford Savage, 27, was not seriously injured. The men were apparently checking snow guns at the time of the accident. The investigation into the incident is continuing.

Officials at Burke Mountain issued the following statement Monday:

“We lost a beloved member of the Burke Mountain family last night ... Everyone here at Burke extends Denny’s family our sincerest condolences and strength to help work through this extraordinarily difficult period.”
