Stefanik Talks NAFTA

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) Business leaders from Quebec and the North Country met with Congresswoman Elise Stefanik Monday across the border.

This was the second time bringing Congresswoman Stefanik to talk business relations between the countries.

Quebec wanted to hear a U.S. representative's stance on NAFTA. President Trump has hinted he might terminate the trade agreement.

The idea of losing NAFTA frightens Quebec. They rely a lot on trades with the U.S. Stefanik says she thinks NAFTA is important -- and so are the U.S. ties with its north.

Stefanik said, "It was a great opportunity to visit with businesses in the region and hear their questions about ongoing trade negotiations."

While on the trip, the North Country Chamber and Stefanik met with Bombardier. They discussed how the company could benefit from Plattsburgh's growing aerospace industry.

All parties seemed happy with what was discussed -- and said hopefully this will lead to more partnerships in the future.
