MALONE, N.Y. (WCAX) New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik toured a Malone apple orchard Wednesday as part of an effort to discuss the Farm Bill.
Prairie's Orchard is relatively new. It started planting its trees in 2013 and this is the first year they are selling fruit. The Republican says the visit is part of an effort to talk to farmers all over the state to see what needs to be added or changed to the Farm Bill next year.
She says the importance of programs that help newer farmers overcome challenges was one of her biggest takeaways.
"It's important for me to hear feedback from local farmers, whether it's apples or dairy, to what their priorities are in next years farm bill negotiation," she said.
Addressing dismal milk prices for dairy farmers is another major concern she plans to address.
