Superintendent recommends closing Underhill ID School

JERICHO, Vt. (WCAX) The Underhill I.D. grade school could be closing for the 2019-2020 school year.

The superintendent of the Chittenden East Supervisory Union recommended to the school board last week that Underhill I.D. close and its students be sent to Underhill Central and Jericho elementary schools.

The superintendent's report said the significant decline in student enrollment has created "excess, repurposed and underutilized space" in many schools across Vermont. So the superintendent advised that Underhill I.D. be closed and repurposed for office space, the Jericho Alternative Program and YMCA preschool program.

The school board will vote on whether to close the school this fall.
