WATERBURY, Vt. (WCAX) The Vermont Swift Water Rescue Team has returned from the Lone Star State.
For seven days, the Task Force 1 team worked alongside Texas Emergency Management to aid victims of Hurricane Harvey. The team conducted searches of submerged vehicles and traveled to homes of residents who were unaccounted for in the impacted areas.
They say lessons learned in Texas and during Vermont's Tropical Storm Irene are valuable for when the next disaster strikes.
"I can't say that you are ever ready for that kind of devastation but I think that we are at a point now that we learned our lessons-- where we can work through it," said Marc Brown of the Lyndonville Fire Department.
Unlike here in Vermont, the team had to be on the lookout for alligators, water snakes and fire ants.
