RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) A lockdown Friday at the Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Police say the hospital received a call around 11 a.m. from a man making threats about a patient. The center's main campus and the women's health care clinic were on lockdown for about 40 minutes.

Police arrested Paul Rice Senior of Rutland for causing a false public alarm, disorderly conduct and impeding the investigation.

"When someone causes this type of alarm that takes this type of response, it takes a lot of professionals away from the jobs that they should be elsewhere and away from the public that needs those services," Rutland City Police Sgt. Matthew Prouty said. "So in that particular case, we were impeded from doing our job because one individual did something very foolish."

Rice is due in court Monday.
