Top honors for some Vermont farmers

ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (WCAX) The Champlain Valley Fair celebrated its roots Wednesday, welcoming the 2017 class into the Vermont Agricultural Hall of Fame.

Ray and Pam Allen of South Hero, Claude Bourbeau of St. Albans and Rupert and Muriel Chamberlin of Barton were recognized for their contributions to the Vermont rural lifestyle, and for their lifelong efforts to promote agricultural products through good management and agritourism.

"It puts a face on agriculture. And with more and more people becoming more and more health conscious, wanting to know where their food is coming from, to have them come to our farm ask about apples, ask about animals is one more step in the right direction," Pam Allen said.

"You have to stay ahead of the game and adapt and do whatever you can to be successful. It's a challenge sometimes," Ray Allen said.

A photo portrait exhibit of all the new and previous inductees will be on display at the Vermont Statehouse in January.
